CABIN FEVER

Jungle fever meets cabin fever, as we turn from tropical adventures to seeking out the sunshine at home.

Tropical prints reigned over the SS20 shows. Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Halpern, Valentino, Ports 1961 all showcased tropical prints, with Versace taking the crown and Jennifer Lopez ruling the runways in that Versace dress. Restoring this 2000 Grammy look for a frenzied 2020 catwalk show audience, Jennifer Lopez and Versace broke the internet once again, skyrocketing the tropical trend.

Mastering tropical prints is tricky. No one wants to look as though they are wearing mismatched old curtain fabric. Bold prints, bolder colours and good materials all help in conquering this trend. For a failsafe and on-trend choice, look to green and black leaf prints head-to-toe, such as a statement dress styled with some simple chic gladiator sandals. Feeling bolder - clash tropical, floral and leaf prints, wearing high-waisted skirts and fitted tops. Or, for that tropical shirt moment, pair with chunky jewellery, as at Ports 1961.

There’s no need to save tropical styling for beach get-aways, either (with palm trees and holiday escapes wishful thinking right now!) Whether picking from the high-street or from high-end designer pieces, tropical prints are a great way to animate and saturate your wardrobe straight away. Hopefully some of my shopping picks (linked below) will do just that, even if - for now - we are seeking out that J-Lo sizzling summer spirit closer to home.
