SUMMER DENIM

Shop my denim edit for the summer months ahead

Looking to the SS20 runways, classic pieces are taking centre stage, with denim revamped and elevated. Jeans were a hero piece for Celine (straight, slouchy, with 70s flare), darted and nautical at Chanel, and likewise for Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini, frayed with oversized blazers at Givenchy, embroidered at Ashish, oversized at Balenciaga and Marques’ Almeida, tailored at Sies Marjan, and doubled up in dark indigo at Bottega Veneta. Classic trenches, classic shirts, and of course classic denim: no longer are the trends and the classics two separate realms in fashion. Classic pieces are trending. Trends are being named after the classics. It seems that, finally, fashion leaders are encouraging longevity, with ways to re-work and re-vamp our denim, and our wardrobes, for a more sustainable future.

Notwithstanding this new mood, denim is still one of the fashion industry’s worst offenders for environmental impact, with harmful production practices and thousands of litres of water needed to produce enough cotton for just one pair of jeans. Thankfully, the denim rules are shifting and brands are stepping up their sustainability credentials to lessen their impact on the environment, from tackling waste and pollution to recycling and improving the durability and traceability of their material.
